Joint cartilage thickness measured by ultrasound in juvenile idiopathic arthritis
نویسندگان
چکیده
Purpose Joint cartilage degradation is one of the early outcomes in juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). One of the primary goals of rheumatic treatment is to prevent joint destruction. We therefore need sensitive methods to evaluate cartilage thickness. Ultrasonography (US) has shown to be a reliable tool in the assessment of joint cartilage in rheumatic disease. We have previously been able to establish ageand sex-related normal reference intervals for joint cartilage thickness throughout childhood. The purpose of this study was to investigate: whether US is a sensible method in the evaluation of joint cartilage in JIA patients; US feasibility as a monitoring and prognostic tool.

PReS-FINAL-2344: Radiographic evaluation of joint space width compared to cartilage thickness as assessed by ultrasonography in knees of children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis
Introduction Joint space narrowing (JSN) is a measureable outcome of the tissue degeneration caused by the inflammatory process of the synovium in arthritis. JSN is usually assessed by conventional radiography. Ultrasonographic measurements of joint cartilage thickness in large and small joints have been validated in a study of healthy children and recently, measurements of distal femoral carti...

Background Joint cartilage degradation is resulted by ensuing chronic inflammation in juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). Since the primary goals of treatment are to prevent joint destruction sensitive methods are needed to evaluate cartilage thickness (CTh). Ultrasonography (US) is a reliable tool in the assessment of joint cartilage in rheumatic disease. Previously, we have shown that CTh, i...

AIM To determine whether early clinical, laboratory and musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSUS) characteristics can be used as early detectors of juvenile idiopathic arthritis. PATIENTS AND METHODS Forty (40) patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) diagnosed according to the ILAR criteria [1] and 20 healthy control children. All patients were subjected to the following assessment at base ...
